Pluractionality and the unity of the event
Abstract
This paper exposes shortcomings of an analysis to single event plural verbs (Cusic’s event-internal plural verbs) based on temporal discontinuity. It proposes an approach based on the violation of Krifka’s property of Mapping-to-SubObject on a theta role. The proposal extends to other cases when we assume that the semantic contribution of pluractional morphology in these verbs is more generally to break correspondences between mereological relations between participants in predications
