Van timmermanszoon tot schilder aan het hof. De adellijke ambities van Justus van Egmont
Samenvatting
The historical context for this paper is given by European early modern society and its social system. Within this framework, Justus van Egmont serves as a case-study. Van Egmont’s ambitions are clarified by considering his position in Rubens’s workshop and as court painter with Louis xiii, as well as his function as a founding member of the Parisian Académie des Beaux-Arts. Also his print shop and some archival documents will be taken into account. By means of a reconstruction of his social network the question is discussed whether this framework added up to his flourishing career and how it correlates to his oeuvre.Downloads
