About the Journal
Linguistics in Amsterdam (LiA) is a platform to present new ideas, discussions, and work in progress. It is our aim to reflect the diverse linguistic interests of the ACLC research groups (www.aclc.uva.nl). This includes generative grammar, Functional Discourse Grammar, bidirectional phonetics and phonology, sign language linguistics, historical and sociolinguistics, language and speech pathology, as well as other areas of linguistics. We hope that this platform will make visible some of the state-of-the-art research that is being carried out within the Amsterdam Center for Language and Communication (ACLC), and further inspire cooperation between researchers.
Papers may take the form of a complete manuscript but also of a conference paper, discussion paper, report of an experiment, or working paper. Other formats will also be considered. LiA invites contributions from researchers affiliated with the ACLC. However, external collaborators may be co-authors. ACLC members may also propose special issues, for example to publish conference proceedings. In that case, contributions from external collaborators are also accepted. In particular, we aim to support junior researchers by providing a platform to share (preliminary versions of) their research and gain experience in writing and publishing academic papers. We encourage students and PhD candidates to draw on this platform to publish intermediate results.
The papers are non-anonymously peer-reviewed by fellow members of the ACLC or, in exceptional cases, external reviewers. Reviewers evaluate the papers on originality, consistency and style. Note that we ask non-native English speakers to have their contributions checked by a native speaker before submitting them to us. Under the ‘guidelines’ section of this website, authors can find instructions on how to submit papers.
