This article examines how feminists of the second wave (1970s) redefined female sexuality and linked it to the formation of identity. While the sexual revolution has often been portrayed as a moment of liberation, this study demonstrates that, for women, it frequently imposed new normative expectations. Through an analysis of feminist texts, self-help literature, and experiential narratives, the article shows how activists emphasised that genuine sexual liberation begins with self-knowledge and bodily acceptance. By centring women’s experiences, it highlights how these practices constituted a political act of emancipation.
