About the Journal

ERLACS – European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies is an Open Access, scientific journal. It publishes peer-reviewed articles in English and Spanish. Contributions reflect substantial empirical research and/or are theoretically innovative with respect to major debates within social science research (understood in the broadest sense, including history and economics) on Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition to research articles, ERLACS includes Special Collections, 'Explorations' (a section that presents new themes and stimulates new debates), review essays, book reviews, and film reviews. Articles are published online soon after acceptance.

ERLACS is published online in two issues, January-June and July-December. Articles are made available as soon as they are ready.

ERLACS – Revista Europea de Estudios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe es una revista científica de Acceso Abierto. Difunde artículos bajo revisión por pares en inglés y español. Las contribuciones reflejan la investigación empírica sustancial y/o son teóricamente innovadoras con respecto a los grandes debates dentro de la investigación social (en el sentido más amplio, incluyendo la historia y la economía) en América Latina y el Caribe. Además de los artículos de investigación, ERLACS incluye Números Especiales, 'Exploraciones' (una sección en la que se presentan nuevos temas con el fin de estimular nuevos debates), ensayos de reseña, reseñas de libros y críticas de cine. Los artículos se publican en línea poco después de su aceptación.

ERLACS se publica en línea en dos ediciones, enero-junio y julio-diciembre. Los artículos se publican tan pronto como estén listos.

ERLACS is published by CEDLA – Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation as an Open Access Journal.

Since its creation in 1964, the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA), hosted by the University of Amsterdam, has promoted Latin American Studies in the Netherlands, Europe and beyond. This is done by conducting and disseminating relevant, original research on developments in Latin America through academic education and publications. CEDLA’s library is considered Europe’s second-largest collection of material on Latin America. Since July 2015, CEDLA is part of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam.

 

Academic Relations

CEDLA's objective is to promote research on Latin America and the Caribbean in the social sciences and the humanities within an interdisciplinary framework. It has considerable and continuous contact with foreign universities and research institutes specialising in Latin America. In the Netherlands, Cedla is associated with ARTES (Amsterdam School for Regional, Transnational and European Studies), LASP (Latin American Studies Graduate Programme), and the national research school CERES (Research School for Resource Studies for Development at Utrecht University). At the national level, Cedla acts as secretariat for the Netherlands Association of Latin American and Caribbean Studies / Werkgemeenschap Latijns Amerika en het Caraïbisch Gebied

 

Journal History

The first issue of the journal, then titled Boletín informativo sobre estudios latinoamericanos en Europa, was published in April 1965. From 1970-1973 (nos. 10-15), it was published as Boletín de Estudios Latinoamericanos. From 1974 to 1989 (nos. 16-46), ISSN 0304-2634, it was titled: Boletín de Estudios Latinoamericanos y del Caribe. In December 1989, issue 47, the journal was renamed and it has maintained its current title (ERLACS - European Review of Latin American and Caribbean Studies; ISSN 0924-0608) since then. ERLACS has been an open-access scientific journal since 1 April 2013.
