Instructions for Authors

Locus welcomes submissions from researchers, both seasoned and emerging, as well as professionals in the cultural field. Locus contributions must meet academic standards. They should be based on academic literature and/or empirical data and be well substantiated. Moreover, submissions should be written in clear and accessible language. The target length for an article is 3,500 words, excluding notes and bibliography. If your submission is longer than this, please contact the editorial board. Submissions should follow The Chicago Manual of Style formatting guidelines for citations and references. An abstract of 75-125 words should also be included, as well as a short bio, up to 125 words.

Collaborative peer review

All articles are subject to editorial review and, at the discretion of the editorial board, to anonymous peer review. Locus uses collaborative peer review, which involves multiple reviewers, and authors, working together to evaluate papers. Submissions are first reviewed by two members of the editorial board from two different disciplines. In the case the topic or approach of the submitted manuscript exceeds the expertise of the editorial board members, experts from outside the editorial board are consulted. Editorial comments are returned to the author with a request for revisions. Accepted articles will undergo copy editing. The editors reserve the right not to publish contributions.
