Travesti Narratives: Transformed Bodies, Transformative Texts

Abstract

This article explores literary narratives of travesti identity, in which the construction of a political subjectivity aims at disrupting socio-cultural norms through the rejection of colonial identitarian formations imposed by the nationstate in the complex context of Latin America. Focusing on the poetics of Claudia Rodriguez’s work, and intersecting it with the construction of travesti relationality in Camila Sosa Villada’s novel Las Malas (2019), this article reads the texts through Muñoz’s concepts of queer futurity and brown commons, in order to analyze processes of collectivization of individual narrative and politicization of non-fiction rooted in the transformative force of trans-formed bodies.
