Redactioneel - dossier Game Studies
Abstract
Computer games have existed for over fifty years, but Game Studies only emerged as an independent academic field in the early twenty‑first century. Until then, media studies and cultural analysis addressed the nascent scholarly interest in games. By around 2001 scholars recognized that games required distinct approaches, methods, and debates, and the discipline has since expanded dramatically. Games can be examined as cultural artifacts in ways that differ from traditional media. This special issue of Locus presents four interdisciplinary case studies. Together, these contributions aim to foster ongoing dialogue across the humanities about the study of games.
