Over middeleeuwse handschriften uit Limburgse kloosters
Samenvatting
Monastic libraries have been scattered throughout history by dissolution or destruction of monasteries, by sale, or by bequest when the library proved too great a burden for the monastic community. This contribution describes the fortunes of Limburg monastic collections on the basis of some specific examples, paying particularly close attention to medieval manuscripts. The 'Maastricht Collection' concerns the books that were found in the Maastricht 'gouvernement' building in 1839 and ended up in the Royal Library in The Hague and the university libraries of Utrecht and Groningen. The library of the Wittem monastery went to the Nijmegen University Library in 1975, as part of the sale of fourteen collections of the Redemptorists. The medieval manuscripts of the Dutch province of the Franciscans just ended up in Limburg and are now part of the collection of Museum W in Weert. Research on collections and their fate is important to know more about medieval book culture in Limburg. Digital presentation and reconstruction are an important means to this end.
